Penrith Preschool is available to all children during term time following their 3rd birthday. We offer flexible grant funded sessions with the option of additional wrap around day care (care outside sessional hours to help meet the needs of working parents) between the hours of 8.30am and 4.00pm. Each child is entitled up to 30 hours of free nursery care per week, which can be used in hourly blocks.
Your child's development will flourish - we aim to provide a happy, secure, and stimulating enviroment. With a staff to child ratio of 1:6 within our well equipped nursery. Our friendly, highly trained team are committed to providing a fun and educational environment, encouraging children to communicate and engage with their peers through play. We work in partnership with parents through the use of: home link books; regular parents evenings; newsletters; and we actively encourage all parents to join the voluntary committee. Parents are welcome to visit the Preschool Nursery at any time and are especially welcome when the children host their annual Nativity and Easter Bonnet Parade.
We work in accordance with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Statutory Framework. This consists of three prime areas:
- Personal, Social & Emotional Development (PSED)
- Physical Development (PD)
- Communication and Language (CL)
and four subject areas:
- Literacy (L)
- Mathematics (M)
- Understanding the World (UW)
- Expressive Arts & Design (EAD)
Keyworkers observe and assess children in these areas. Every term a summative sheet is prepared to show how the children are progressing; this information is shared with parents/carers.
We hold parents evenings for parents and carers to come along and learn about the EYFS and meet with their childs assigned keyworker. Who will suggest activities they can do at home to aid their childs learning. We also hold termly 'Stay and Play' sessions where parents and carers are invited to: join in with the days activities; see how their child interacts with peers; and chat with their child's keyworker.

Parent and Toddler Group
Our popular practitioner-led play sessions are available to toddlers aged between 16 months and 3 years. They are held each Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning from 9.30am to 11.30am and cost £4 per hour. As the title suggests, this facility is for you and your child, where our friendly practitioner will lead a play based session. Each week there will be a planned craft activity, outdoor playtime, snack, story time, song time, along with plenty of free playtime (painting, sandpit time, dressing up, etc).
Toddlers who have attended the parent and toddler sessions often settle quicker into the preschool environment, we believe this is due to the organised structure of toddler group which replicates that of a preschool.
Meet the Staff
Our friendly, dedicated team of experienced staff are here to nurture and encourage learning through play and discovery. All staff are highly trained and are continually attending a rolling programme of training. Throughout the academic year we offer school/university students the opportunity to train with us in order to gain a wealth of experience.
